Professor's Backgrounds
Professors Ed and Matt are experienced in dealing with and teaching BJJ to children. Ed spent over 15 years supervising a children’s emergency shelter and residential treatment program. He has a lot of experience to offer in the development of children.
Matt spent over 30 years as a law enforcement officer. He repeatedly saw the detrimental effects of children not engaged in a positive outlet of energy. He recognized the need for positive role models. He also saw the need for children to be given the opportunity to build self-confidence and to be physically fit. He retired as a police lieutenant.Youth Core Values
The youth class's core values will be recited prior to every class. They are as follows:

What Equipment Does my Child Need?
Your child will need a uniform and a mouth guard. Most BJJ players do not wear other personal protective equipment such as an athletic supporter. Students are welcome to wear this type of equipment as the parent or guardian sees fit.
How does consistent exercise help your child?
Research has shown that regular physical activity and being involved in youth sports have significant benefits for children. Including: increased physical and mental health, physical development and obesity risk reduction.

How will you child learn and grow with Legacy BJJ?
Legacy Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a program that will impact your child in many ways. Your child will be developing an increased awareness of what it takes to grow as an individual. This happens through not only physical fitness and mental the mental fortitude development but through the core values taught to the children such as a peaceful attitude, courage and respect.
Program goals for the young ones! 6 to 8 years of age
The younger children will focus on building the basic foundation of the art. This includes techniques and larger picture concepts such as team work and goal achievement. For the younger ones, this is accomplished through basic instruction, interactive related games and hands on application.
Program goals as they mature. 8 to 12 year of age
This more advanced program continues on building the basic foundation with more detailed instructions of the basic techniques. In addition more techniques will be introduced that will challenge a growing student. Goal related games and hands on application will still be used. A more in-depth discussion of the core values will also be part of the process.
