Success in the triangle isn’t about speed; it’s about the “One-In, One-Out” rule and maintaining a heavy, suffocating “bite.” While there are countless variations and additional details, this guide is aimed at White Belt-level students taking their first stripe test.

How to Triangle Choke from Guard:

- Isolate the Arms: The setup begins by creating a “one arm in, one arm out” scenario.
- The “Trash Can”: Forcefully shove one arm into the guard.
- The Bait: Threaten an armbar; as the opponent naturally pulls back, they often clear the path for the triangle.
- The Bite: Once the arm is cleared, shoot your hips up and throw your leg over the shoulder. The deeper your leg sits across their upper back, the stronger your control.
- Pro Detail: Ensure you hide the shoulder. If you can still see the opponent’s shoulder inside your legs, the bite isn’t deep enough to finish the choke.

- Control the Posture: * Keep your hips high and secure the trapped arm across your body to prevent them from “stacking” or posturing up.
- Safety First: Reach up and grab your own shin—never your foot. Grabbing your toes can accidentally put you in a self-inflicted toe hold if the opponent applies pressure!
- The Angle: Place your non-biting foot on their hip. This allows you to pivot your body, creating the perpendicular angle needed to squeeze.
- Tip: Sliding your body toward the “bite” side makes the choke significantly tighter.

- The Lock & Finish: * Swing your free leg over your shin to create the “triangle” shape.
- Flex your toes toward the ceiling (active feet) to engage the hamstrings.
- The Finisher: Use two hands on the back of the head, pulling down while bridging your hips up to secure the tap.
