Cancellations & Inclement Weather Policy

The safety of our members is our top priority. In the event of extreme Omaha weather or unexpected holiday closures, we follow these protocols:

  • Weather Closures: We typically follow local school district closure updates for evening classes.
  • Instant Notifications: Please check our Facebook page and your email for immediate alerts. We will do our best to delete/cancel items on the calendar above.
  • Notice Period: We aim to post all cancellation notices at least 4 hours before the first scheduled class of the day.

Adult Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ)

Our core program focuses on the “Gentle Art.” These classes cover fundamental and advanced grappling techniques, focusing on leverage, control, and submissions. Perfect for fitness, self-defense, or competition.

Advanced BJJ (Higher Belts)

Reserved for experienced practitioners, this class dives into complex sequences, modern lapel guards, and high-level competition strategies. Attendance typically requires blue belt or higher or coach approval.

Youth BJJ Programs

We empower the next generation through discipline and movement. Our youth classes focus on the fundamentals of Jiu-Jitsu in a safe, fun, and high-energy environment.

Judo

Legacy BJJ is proud to offer dedicated Judo sessions. Learn the art of throws, takedowns, and standing transitions to complement your ground game or stand alone as a powerful martial art.

Community Heroes

A specialized program designed for our local first responders, military, and frontline workers. We provide a space for those who serve our community to sharpen their skills and decompress through training.

Live Sparring (Rolling)

Open mat and dedicated sparring sessions allow students to apply their techniques against resisting opponents in a controlled, supervised setting.

New to Legacy BJJ?

If you are visiting for the first time, please arrive 15 minutes early to meet the instructors and get a tour of the facility. We recommend wearing comfortable athletic gear or your Gi if you already own one.

BJJ Class Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What should I expect during my first Jiu-Jitsu class?

Every class at Legacy BJJ Omaha begins with a warm-up featuring basic Jiu-Jitsu movements. This is followed by a technique breakdown with step-by-step instruction and partner drilling. We wrap up with supervised training to ensure you can apply what you’ve learned safely.

I’ve never done BJJ before. Is this for me?

Absolutely. Our fundamental classes are designed specifically for brand-new students, white belts, and anyone looking to refine their basics. No prior experience is needed and our coaches are happy to help you get started from day one.

What do I need to bring to class?

  • The Uniform: A Gi is required (we have them available for purchase at the gym).
  • Hydration: Bring a water bottle.
  • Hygiene: Bring flip-flops or slides. Note: Shoes are never allowed on the mats, but footwear is mandatory whenever you are off the mat.

When should I arrive?

For your first class, please arrive 10–15 minutes early. This gives us time to show you around, introduce you to the coaches, and ensure your online waiver is complete.

What will my child learn in the Youth BJJ program?

Our program focuses on more than just physical movement. While children learn Jiu-Jitsu fundamentals and self-defense through games and drills, we also emphasize Core Values: Manners, Peace, Striving for excellence, Self-Improvement, and Courage.

Are classes separated by age?

Yes, to provide the best instruction, we group by age:

  • Ages 6–8: Focused on basic movements, confidence building, and learning through games.
  • Ages 8–12: Focused on building a stronger technical foundation, goal setting, and advanced skills.

Can parents watch the youth classes?

Yes! Parents are always welcome to stay and watch their children train in our safe, supervised environment.

Advanced Training & Sparring

Who is the BJJ Sparring class for?

Sparring is a live training class for students with some experience. White belts may join with coach approval, while it is open to all higher belts. This is where you test your techniques against resisting partners in a respectful, supervised setting.

What are the rules for live rolling?

Safety and control are our top priorities. We advocate for the “Tap Early, Tap Often” philosophy to keep everyone healthy. Respect for your training partners is mandatory.
